MSLN T1 Upgrades, Routers and Bandwidth Graphs

Upgrading to DSL or a T1

MSLN sites that currently have a 56K connection may qualify for DSL or a T1if they are exceeding their 56K capacity. To qualify for a bandwidth upgrade a school or library must:
  1. Demonstrate a need for more bandwidth by peaking over 40 kilobits per second for fifteen minutes on three days a month or peaking over 40kbs for fifteen minutes at least 6 times a month to meet the initial eligibility requirement for a T1 upgrade. More details...
  2. Purchase a Cisco Systems 1841 router from MSLN with the appropriate T1 or DSL card. (Prices vary depending on connection)
  3. If a site already has a Cisco 1720/21 router the DSL or T1 card may be purchased through MSLN.

Costs to Upgrade to a T1

  • The DSL and T1 connections are free through MSLN.
  • Schools and libraries only have to purchase the appropriate router
  • If you have an older FRAD you will need to purchase a new Cisco 1720 router.
  • MSLN recommends a $75 first year maintenance contract.
  • Print a Router/Card Order Form and prices

DSL Availability

You can call the MSLN Help Desk to see if DSL is available for your school or library.

Bandwidth Usage Information

You can check and see if you qualify by looking at the Bandwidth Usage Graphs. You need a Network Management Tool Userid and password to view your usage graph.
This page contains a listing of all MSLN circuits/sites. You can scroll down the alphabetical list or do a "find on this page" search with your browser for your school or library name.

There are 4 graphs: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly. They show traffic levels in and out of your interface on a core router. Therefore, the IN line in the graph represents traffic FROM your site into the core. The OUT line represents traffic TO your site from the core.
