The N2H2 Control Center for Bess FilteringContent Filter and Control Center DetailsMSLN utilizes this N2H2 product because it provides a local control piece, or distributed management, that allows each school and library to manage their own filtering. This is the N2H2 Control Center.Automatically, there is a global filter in place (No Filter or Minimum Filter) but each school and library can request to manage the filter locally by phoning the MSLN Help Desk at 1-888-367-6756 or sending an e-mail to msln@maine.edu that contains:
The control of the filter is designated to the site's tech contact person on record. They will use their NM username and password to login or obtain a new username and password from the Help Desk for the filter's Control Center. Libraries can call to obtain a username and password and test out the filter to see how the Control Center and the filter works. Feel free to call your MSLN Circuit Rider if you have more questions or want some help with the filter. Since you can turn the filter on and off - feel free to experiment on one computer in your library. The web interface for managing your site's filter is at: https://filter.msln.net/controlcenter The filter's Control Center allows you to create your own filters, modify existing filters, disable and enable filters on specific computers and create override accounts. N2H2 has included a 'Minimum Filter' and a 'NoFilter' filter as predefined filters. The Minimum Filter can be copied then modified to your liking using the 'Define Filters' tab. For more information on filtering functions there is an online help facility accessible by clicking help on the top right hand of the web interface. Please report any problems you encounter or questions you have to msln@maine.edu. So, if you do nothing, your school or library (as of July 1, 2004) will be filtered under the Minimum Filter in place.
